Legendary Barcelona Striker Comments On Lewandowski's Move: "No Doubt About Him"

Speaking on Cadena SER’s El Larguero, former Barcelona striker David Villa has sung praises of Robert Lewandowski, claiming that there were never any doubts about him hitting the ground running at Spotify Camp Nou.

Lewandowski arrived at Barcelona this past summer, signing from Bayern Munich. During his time in Germany, the 34-year-old had decimated all kinds of goalscoring records, but there were some sceptics, who were concerned if he could continue in the same vein of form outside the Bundesliga.

And the Poland captain has answered those doubters in some style as he has already bagged 11 goals in eight matches across all competitions. Indeed, Lewandowski is currently the leading goalscorer in La Liga (8) and is the early frontrunner for the Pichichi Trophy.

Now, Villa, who enjoyed a successful three-year stint at Barcelona between 2010 and 2013, has hailed Lewandowski, saying:

“He is one of the best strikers in recent years. Adaptation is always mandatory, but a talent like him could play anywhere.

“He has so much talent and experience that, regardless of how long the adaptation process lasted, there was no doubt that he was going to do well.”

Villa’s praise for Lewandowski comes after the Poland captain was named the best striker in the world by former Barcelona manager and current Netherlands head coach Louis van Gaal.

The 34-year-old has been a huge success at Barcelona in the early stages of the campaign and will need to maintain that form throughout the season if Xavi Hernandez & co. are to go all the way in La Liga and the UEFA Champions League.
